Tony Stark snapped the supervillain Thanos and his army out of existence and died himself because of the irreversible damage inflicted on his body due to the toll of using all the the Infinity Stones at the same time.After a fight for the gauntlet, Stark attached the stones to his armor, before snapping his fingers, disintegrating Thanos and his army, and effectively saving the universe. The action took a huge toll on his body due to the gamma radiation and the power of the stones, zapping him of his remaining life force.Tony could have been brought back from the dead, but seeing as how there were few among the heroes who could handle the toll of using the stones, bringing Tony back would have most likely meant sacrificing someone else.
Why did Iron Man snap : It all came down to a scrum for the Infinity Stones between Thanos and Iron Man. Although Thanos thought he had the upper hand, Iron Man secretly took the Infinity Stones to perform a snap of his own – one which wiped the Mad Titan and his army from Earth but also ended his own life.
