Much to my chagrin, I really enjoy playing elementalist. It can be hard, but I like the concept of the profession. And Tempest and Weaver are both a lot of fun to play — I think Tempest may be slightly more fun though. Generally, if you like strategy, character management, and a great story, Guild Wars 1 is probably the way to go, so long as you can get past it being an older game. If you prefer action, group play (i.e. zergs), and crafting systems, Guild Wars 2 will probably be more to your taste.

Is every class viable in gw2 : Every class has good builds for every game mode. It is more a question of what class you like. If you settle on that between all the expansion builds you will find one that works for each game mode. No class is completely bad or good.
