Legacy. Burton's body was cremated and the ashes were scattered at the Maxwell Ranch. At the ceremony, the song "Orion" was played. Shortly after Burton's death, Jason Newsted from Flotsam and Jetsam became Metallica's new bassist.
Megadeth. They have always made more complex, technical and just generally faster music and have just played their instruments better. Metallica indeed has written some awesome songs, their metal ballads are untouchable, and many of their early albums are undisputed classics.

On This Day, February 22, 1989: Jethro Tull beats Metallica for the first-ever Hard Rock/Metal Grammy.The only thing is, Hammett has more recognizable and popular riffs throughout his playing, while Mustaine only has older songs that are more influential, while Hammett is more consistent and current with longevity and play style, even if it is very wah-pedal heavy as many guitarists and fans note.Due to tensions within the band (which were well-documented in the Metallica documentary Some Kind of Monster) at the time, Hammett expressed interest in working on a solo album.
At the time of his departure, Newsted said he left Metallica because it was impossible for him to play a more creative role in the band and that Metallica was spending too much time fighting Napster and not enough time working on new music.

Why was Jason kicked out of Metallica
Anger, Newsted publicly announced his departure. He cited “private and personal reasons and the physical damage I have done to myself over the years while playing the music that I love”. His last performance as Metallica bassist was at the My VH1 Music Awards in 2000.
