Warhammer 40K began as a pastiche of science fiction and fantasy tropes.Influences. Rick Priestley cites J. R. R. Tolkien, H. P. Lovecraft, Dune, Paradise Lost, and 2000 AD as major influences on the setting. The Warhammer 40K universe began with the Age of Terra, a period of history that saw the rise of humanity on Earth. During this time, humanity was ruled by the Emperor of Mankind, a powerful psychic being who had created the genetically-engineered Space Marines to serve as his personal army.

How did Warhammer begin
1975 – Our story begins…
Three friends decided to share their hobby with the world, starting up a UK-based mail-order business importing popular fantasy roleplaying and board games. They call their company “Games Workshop” (which only narrowly beat the alternative: “Games Garage”).
How many humans are in 40k : Some sources I've seen say that the Imperium of Man has a population of 4-8 Quadrillion humans. other sources say that the Imperium of Man has a population of 15 Quadrillion and some even say that the imperium of Man has a population of hundreds of quadrillion or even 1.5 quintillion.
Warhammer 40k slipped from a satire of fascism to a love letter to it. “Oldhammer” 40k is very “punk” (a band logo even ended up on some armor, I THINK it was The Cure or something). VERY anti-establishment. It focuses on Rogue Traders flaunting the laws of the draconian Imperium and being generally scummy.
Typically though it takes place in the 40th-42nd Millenia. So around the year 39,000–41,000 CE. The Warhammer 30k Era, has the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy as the main two events in the ,taking place in the late 30th Millenium or VERY early 31st Millenium(approximately 29,800–30,011 CE).
What is Warhammer based on
The Warhammer setting is inspired by the fiction of J. R. R. Tolkien, Poul Anderson and Michael Moorcock. The fictional background for the game was developed in rulebooks, White Dwarf magazine, Inferno! magazine, and more than 150 novels set in the Warhammer universe.Within the Warhammer 40,000 community, most content created or licensed by the franchise's owner, Games Workshop, Limited, is considered canon. However, due to the myriad sources and the extended time period that lore has been produced over, some sources are considered "more" canon than others. Some sources I've seen say that the Imperium of Man has a population of 4-8 Quadrillion humans. other sources say that the Imperium of Man has a population of 15 Quadrillion and some even say that the imperium of Man has a population of hundreds of quadrillion or even 1.5 quintillion.
Harald Hammerstorm
Harald Hammerstormm – "Harry the Hammer" is a legendary chaos warrior, roaming the Chaos Wastelands searching for more of the undead to slay. He has an eternal grudge against any of the undead. This character was on the cover of Warhammer 1st Edition.
Does Earth exist in Warhammer 40k : Terra in the 41st Millennium is an Imperial Hive World, the largest in the galaxy. The Earth was stripped of all forms of natural resources many millennia ago; its soil is utterly barren and its atmosphere is now a fog of industrial pollution.
How old do humans live in 40k : But sooner or later even the most expensive biochemical treatments fail to hide the ravages of age. At that point the subject becomes more vulnerable to infections and organ failure. After 400 standard years of life few Human beings within the Imperium can survive without mechanical assistance.
Is 40k a satire of fascism
40k isn't a satire, they take it very seriously and over time the books, lore, and art have been played more and more straight. However, it does have satirical elements. Sometimes the biggest enemies our heroes can face are extremism and bureaucracy from their own side.
You can't get much nerdier than Warhammer. Forget video games or sci-fi TV shows: a pastime that involves collecting and painting small plastic models, moving them around pretending they are trying to kill each other, and then rolling dice to find out how well they've killed each other, is about as nerdy as it gets.Space Marines – The Space Marines are genetically-modified transhuman warriors designed specifically to lead the Human reconquest of the galaxy during the Great Crusade that created the Imperium of Man over ten thousand Terran years ago during the late 30th and early 31st Millenniums.
Is Warhammer 40K a parody : It's a satire. 100%. I agree with that. That's their intent though but Games Workshop has… a lot of writers… and a lot of products… and a lot of content (etc).
